A Windows message promising Automatic Repair can feel reassuring for about five minutes. Then the PC restarts, shows the same screen again, and the worry sets in – especially if you need it for work, banking, family calls or simply keeping life organised.
If you are asking, “why won’t my PC repair?”, the answer is usually that Windows has found a problem but cannot safely fix the underlying cause on its own. That cause may be a failed update, damaged system files, a struggling drive, a connected accessory, or a more serious hardware fault. The good news is that there are sensible checks to try before assuming the computer is beyond repair.
Why won’t my PC repair itself?
Windows includes built-in recovery tools, but they are not magic. Automatic Repair is designed to correct certain start-up faults, such as damaged boot files. It cannot always resolve a problem if the file damage is extensive, the storage drive is failing, or an update has left Windows in an awkward state.
A repair loop can also happen when the computer starts successfully enough to launch the recovery tool, but fails when it tries to load Windows normally. Each restart takes you back to the same point. Repeatedly allowing it to try again rarely changes the result.
